Default excess exhaust

Hi All,

I just went on a fishing trip with my buddy and my son in my 01 QC box I had a 12' boat,9.9 o/b motor ,3 gallons of fuel, chairs ,chainsaw, rods in my box. My food and sleeping gear was in my other buddies Ford PSD ~towing a 23' travel trailer. We were headed up about a 10% grade for about 7 miles my little 3.9 auto was holding about 55 MPH at about 4250 rpms . I looked in my mirror I saw excess smoke coming from the pipe the gauges were all fine ,no check engine light . I did use a bit of oil about a cup. Tune up (plugs/cap/rotor/wires are less than 3 months old/
\
Seems to be running fine as was before. i did stab it to 4500 rpms while up a hill with no smoke.

Any ideas???

Update!:

I have driven the truck for my commute to work and have found an increase in fuel economy.I'm wondering if that with the high RPMs and the hill produced some extra heat and blew a bunch of schmutz from the inside chambers and from the cat.

It's good to be hard on your motor, it keeps it clean. I've heard some nasty pinging in an engine that was grandpa driven, had to be seafoamed to clear all the carbon out.
