Default Sudden Problem

I am experiencing the dreaded ABS and brake lamp on and speedometer not working until around 30 mph problem. In the process of changing the ABS sensor in the rear differential. Not real optimistic this will fix the problem but hoping. What bothers me is the old sensor ohms out about the same as the new one. Can the sensor have a good reading and still be defective? Anyone run into this problem before? What fixed it? 98 Dakota 4x4 with auto and 5.2.

Replaced the ABS sensor on top of the differential and changed the gear oil. Lights are off and speedometer is back to normal.
