Default Check engine light on 01 Dakota

came on and is showing code 1682. Anyone know what this is? I have a Haynes manual but it doesn't show this code number. Thanks for any help.

P1682: Charging system output too low.

That being said, something may be going on with your alternator. Do you notice a drop in voltage when you turn on the radio or headlights or a/c? Could also be your battery. I think they can check both at a place like Autozone or another auto store.

Thanks dirtbiker for the reply..Battery is only a year old so it should be good. The trucks been siting for over a week so it could be down a little I suppose. However I drove it today maybe 5 or 6 miles and it was still showing the code when I got back. I've haven't noticed the voltage going down. I'll go by autozone first chance I get and have it checked out....Thanks again...
