Default strong gas smell and cut out while the a/c is on

my grandpa has a 2000 dodge dakota sport 3.9L automatic 2 wheel drive and ive been trying to figure out whats wrong with it. every now and then when driving it, it has a strong gas smell and when pulling out of a parking lot with the a/c on and turning to the left it stalls out in the middle of the road for about 30 sec. and then takes off as if nothing happend. any ideas of what it could be?

You probably need to gather more info. It sounds like it is having a problem under load, but you may only be smelling gas at the lower speeds, may still be there but not noticable at higher. I'd test your fuel pressure with a gauge first, at idle and then check for leak down.

I think User can vouch that that's an important thing to check out ASAP...
