Default Auto to NV3550 conversion

hey guys... has anyone here done the AT to NV3550 conversion on a 4x4?

I am looking to downsize from the Ram & Audi TT into a 2nd gen QC 4x4 and am having a hard time finding what I want in a MT truck. I am thinking this might be a good way to go since the trannys are cheep, transfer case should move over (although I'd probably swap into a NV242 with the AWD/4WD option).

I've done the research and it looks like a good option. couple of questions I still need to research are the flywheel & harmonic balancer setup for the 4.7 motor... is it internally or externally balanced... etc...

My goal is to build a truck that will regularly get me 18~20mpg on the hiway since that is what I get with the ram (18~19) all mods would help to benefit in the low end from 1800~2500 rpm to improve low end torque... since that is where the mpg gains are. The only negative mpg change the truck will have will be the pro comp xtreme AT's... those are a must since they wear like no other tire I have ever had. (+95K out of a set on my ram... and I took them off too early thinking they were bad, turned out to be ball joints grrr).

Did you ever get anywhere on this swap? I'm trying to find info on what year dakotas I can take the nv3500 trans from, and whether or not the auto transfer case will bolt onto the nv3500 with no modifications.

No I actually shelved the idea of getting a Dak... decided to stick with the ram since I have so much effort into it.

check with these 2 websites... they have a lot of info that whould be helpful

Seems like this trans is the same as the NV3500 but just the separate bell housing. I had considered putting in the NV242 TC to have the AWD capability on hand if needed. I think it would be a good setup in Dak...
