I hava a 2002 4.7L dakota that i wrecked a few years back. while repairing it, the body shop told me they could not get the correct fan shroud for my truck. they convinced me to let them put in a radiator, fan shroud and fan from a durango with a Hemi. everything seemed to work fine other that the fan was a bit louder. after about 6 - 9 months, i noticed that my truck was running a little hotter than normal, so i took it back and they installed another fan clutch. everything seemed fine for a while, but its now running a little hot again, and it will actually get too hot if i let it idle for very long without moving. once i start moving and get the air flowing thru the radiator. it cools back down. Thought i would come here to get some ideas of possible solutions to my problem, since im tired of dealing with that shop, and they have only offered to replace the fan clutch again.

See if they will put in an electric fan. They are simple to install and they work pretty good. I put one on my Jeep and it worked great once I got the thermostat set correctly. That's what I will do in my Dakota if my fan clutch ever goes out. I currently have 175,000 on my 2003 and it is still going strong.

 

If you used an approved bodyshop of the insurance company that paid for the repairs, call the insurance company and tell them you want the right parts installed. The right parts are readily available and should have been installed in the first place. You got boned by a crooked body shop.

 

Taurus efan will work good or HHR fan. The 4.7's already are backed with a Efan so your truck should have one.

 

maybe its the rad not the fan the rad is to small for the engine cant cool it they installed a small rad.

Or I have seen new rads that were half plugged up at install cheap rebuilds.

If the fan is sucking in air at a good rate Im thinking check the rad
