If I were you you need to talk to them you can get them to deal with you tell them you only want the cost of parts and you will do the work I did that before and it worked I had a small Fender bender two years ago and made a deal with them THEY SAID YES THATS OK.

Sure they might have its estimated value at 3600 but if they total it out, they pay you less than what it's worth to you, and then they will pimp it out to a junk yard for 2000 or 2500 to recoup their loss on it. That sounds like the short end of the stick to me. Like others have said for probably $1000 or less in parts you could fix it back like new yourself, even if you had to tow it home and work on it on your time off from school.

Oh believe me I know what they do with "totaled" cars. Whoever finds my truck in a junkyard hit the jackpot as far as parts go. Body lift, shackles, Two 2 foot firestik cb antennas with mounts, herculined bed, practically new toy open country at's (265/75/16) and soft 8's..and so much more.

Like I said, it isn't up to me at this point. It's whatever my dad wants to do with it pretty much. If insurance says total it out, we're not going to buy it back. simply because it's not worth the hassle of paying for insurance/registration and other expenses on it while its out of commission, and since I will be in school in 16 days, it's going to be out of commission for at least a year if I were to fix it.

I'm still hoping that it doesn't end up being a total loss, I love my truck.

Yup pretty much, I woke up and started to head over to a buddies house, 20 feet outside of my neighborhood I hear a pop and then all the sudden the truck drops in the front left and ive got lower control arm digging up the pavement.

preciate the luck sir..

Blue book says its only worth about 3k at best repairs about the same but the auto shop was trying to pump up the cost they wanted $$$ that’s what made them want to total it Damn auto body shop was saying an old small dent in my rear was part of the crash that alone was adding 1K to the cost of repair.

I got lucky I bitched and bitched and bitched and pointed out that the other cost was included so they remove that cost and I said just Bondo the fender I don’t care and they repaired it not total it.
Can you imagine a small fender bender and it’s considered TOTALED F-that.
My truck runs great and looks great.
Yeah I was the only drivable car out of my 4 car pile up when I had my jeep (not my fault for accident) and it still got totaled out.

I believe insurance companies value the car at the worth of the damaged vehicle. Meaning in its current state it is worth $3,600. Not overall.

Like I said before, it isn't up to me at this point. If it were I would obviously be having it fixed/ordering the parts to fix it.

Either way it goes down, I'll be sad that my truck is gone, but I would probably end up getting the durango...and I can **** with the durango haha.

well ive seen some even thou it maybe totled you still maybe able to get it fixed i know a guy who screwed up the frame on a 98 ranger 2wd last year and they replaced the frame in it even thou it cost more then the truck was worth so you may get lucky cause the insurance company will do a quote on it and take pics and see what they think but maybe you can buy it back and sell it to a member if you can get a buyer straightened out as it is a great easy project truck for somebody cause i know i could get a used front end for it pretty cheap 2-300 bucks and maybe a week to put it together easy money and why dont you take all your stuff off of it

Don't want to have to buy it back because we'll end up taking the money insurance gives us for it and put it toward a new car for myself or my mother. I wish it were up to me because I would buy it back, but again it isn't up to me. But hey maybe it isn't going to be totaled, they haven't told us yet so the question mark in the title still stands.

I took everything out of the truck already, headunit, subs, all personal belongings, etc.. Not worried/caring about other stuff on the truck because its not stuff that I can remove easily and fast. I would be there for a long time reversing the body lift, the rest of the stuff on there is easily replaceable if I want it, but if i end up getting the durango I'm not going to be doing anything to it except for tint and putting in my headunit and subs, actually let me rephrase any new car to me I will more than likely not do anything like what I did to my truck.

Don't get me wrong, I love my truck and all, but I can definitely say it was a phase of lifting and working on the truck, and I spent a lot of money haha.

Got the call from my insurance company today...finally.

NOT TOTALED! WOOOO haha.

Insurance is paying for everything except the ball joint which failed (because thats a maintenance issue/could have been avoided if i took it to the dealer to get checked out every so often - so they say..) So the damages we have to pay go from $4,500 down to $1,600. Much better. Should be back in my driveway by the end of the week.

Talking Great news

But why don’t you check your truck out not the dealership they charge big $$$ most people that own a truck do their own work and maintains them unless you have a big pile of cash then who cares.

No offense intended but that is total BS. Ball joints are not a maintenance item, at least not the factory ball joints anyway. There is no maintenance to be done on them, you can't grease them like you can a good quality aftermarket ball joint. There is no need to have ball joints "checked at a dealer every so often". Ball joints are not designed to wear out at an expected mileage interval like other legit maintenance items like brake pads and rotors. The insurance company is ripping you off so you pay more and they pay less. If it were me I would get the dealer to put it in writing that there is no "preventative maintenance" they can do on a Mopar ball joint and present that to the insurance company and try to get them to cover that part of the repairs too.

Insurance companies suck. They only care about money and profits, and they have no idea of what really is fair treatment. I once read on another forum that insurance companies "are like someone who gives you an umbrella and then takes it away from you when it starts raining". That is very true. All they care about is their bottom line and making you the consumer pay as much as possible and making sure they pay as little as possible. They try every little trick they can think of to decrease what they will pay on a claim. The only time you can get them to listen and give you a chance at a fair deal is when you have a lawyer involved.

Glad to know your truck is being fixed and not pimped out to the highest-bidding bone yard.

Jimmy

Cool So True

So true the stock ball joints have no grease fitting on a Dakota to maintain but they can be checked for play out or how louse they may be getting so there is some maintenance that is check for wear that is all you can do.

I guess you could call it being attentive not maintenance!

Man that scares the hell out of me. My upper ball joints are almost completely exposed and I've always just greased by hand that way. I'm replacing mine this weekend, no way am I going to take the risk.

Good to hear that your truck will at least be getting fixed.
