Installing condenser
Was referred here by the Durango forum.
I ran into a small problem when reading the following from the service manual for an 02 4.7L Durango:
CAUTION: Before removing the condenser, note the location of each of the radiator and condenser air seals. These seals are used to direct air through the condenser and radiator. The air seals must be reinstalled in their proper locations in order for the air conditioning and engine cooling systems to perform as designed.
The problem is that there was no condenser when I picked it up, so I have no idea what these seals look like. Does anyone have a pic?
Thanks

Maybe somone can take a photo for you, but I am missing one of mine. I think they are just referring to the molded plastic pieces that are held in place with plastic trim holders on the left and right of the radiator/condensor. They just direct air into the radiator instead of letting some air bypass it and go directly into the engine bay through the front grill.
What year is it??? this may help us to help you and you have a Durango I have a 1998 Dakota and I R/R the whole A/C system last year so I had to pull the condenser out to flush it but the only seals are just the thick plastic mounting bracket and the thick tar like paper that blocks or directs the air to the condenser and radiator nothing special like seals only other seal was on the top cross member that used plastic pop in rivets with a thick rubber strip between that and the condenser and radiator I dont think you need to worry as long as you have the plastic mounting bracket that does most of the work well and the tar paper.
First pic is the cross member see the rivets I removed that rubber strip it was getting ugly and my Dakota doesn’t over heat so no big deal

See the plastic mounting bracket and rubber donuts OH and you must remove the radiator to mount this sorry the bracket is wedged under the radiator that is how it is mounted on the bottom.

Thats it

Thanks 98DAKAZ. It is a 2002 SLT Plus Durango. I think I'm getting the picture about the seal(s). I may have to fabricate something when I put the condenser in. I just did not want to do double work.
Beware I tried to replace my condenser when I R/R my A/C it’s not bad just thought a new one would be nice, the one I ordered online was the cheapest piece of crap I have ever seen just garbage it looked like some little old blind man tried to make it from left over junk from his back yard It may cost big $$ but get an exact replacement from the dealership or reputable shop and you can visually see the part for quality.
I would not fabricate it get an exact part bracket and mounting parts from the dealer this thing is under a lot of stress were it mounts unless you are a master fabricator and very good at it FORGET IT this will be a disaster in the making and will end up costing two times just to fix it again after you make a mess of it.

Can you go back to the person you got the car from and see if they still have the mounting bracket and parts in thier garage and maybe the old condenser?
Only option is the dealership big $$$ for the mounting bracket and condenser probably about $500 for the parts or the junk yard you may get lucky.

The guy I got it from got it at an auction. Already have the condensor. Looks like the dealer for mounting bracket or JY if the dealer is crazy!

I found something out today looking at a replacement for my condenser I see that some sell the mounting bracket with the condenser for my 1998 Dakota but I looked to see if they had one for your model but none showed up.
Perhaps you could modify the 1998 Dakota 2.5 L condenser and mounting bracket to work for your car I guess it depends on the connectors and were the tubes are if they fit that model or not and the size of the condenser will it fit your car.
