Clutch Probs
Ok so awhile back i done a post on a manual tranny swap into and R/T. Well first off The NV 3500 just isnt enough to hold the slightly over stock 5.9. But thats not the point, i keep having clutch breaking issues. For one i nvr dump the clutch from still, tranny wouldnt prolly take too much of that lol. But i had the clutch in for about 9 months, and one day it just broke? I mean not while taking off i mean while shifting from 4 to 5. It came from advance auto 99 RAM 1500 5.9 2WD. Lifetime warranty, so no biggie i pull it out exchange it, that was end of december.....it broke again this morning on the way to work. So my question is any one have any good places to buy a clutch? I thought about trying a 5.2 dakota clutch but it doesnt seem as heavy built. Any advice would be helpful.
Well i cant tell u exactly on this one right now, its still in the truck, i am at work, and cant start to pull it until work is over. Anyways previous break the center spline on the clutch disc broke/separated. the splines would spin but not the disc. Also the fingers no longer would disengage the clutch, when it happened last time, i could "clutch" it, it was direct drive pretty much, so i floated the gears almost till i got home, and then it popped and no longer pulled..."prolly when the disc spun out". Now its the same process, i cant disengage the clutch and its making rough scratching noises as before, just before the disc gave out. Side note, the disc wasnt wore at all, flywheel isnt warped/over heated, its like the rivets in the clutch and a couple nylon pcs just shattered last time. Im sure its the exact same image with this one, when i pull it out ill take pics before i exchange for another new one.
I think you should just call it a day....Ill come down and pick your truck up... I could use a nice looking hood
But seriously, Its a tough call. I poked around for a minute, and guys are running close to 500HP to the wheel with a stock clutch, so it should hold up ok for daily driving...
I know looking for a Hurst for my truck, there are a lot of 3500 applications out there. The only complication would be input dia/splines. Check out parts for a chevy nv4500. They may cross. Have you done anything other than just the clutch disk? TO bearing? fork, etc? Maybe pick up a stock mopar clutch, do a side-by-side, if you already havent...not sure what you can really do diff...other than cheaper materials. ****ty luck, but hey, at least its not 4wd...lol

Ok so i replaced the clutch last night. Same thing appears to be happening to this clutch, on the disc itself the metal that held the springs in place just seem to rip. I honestly think its just a bad aftermarket design. Got my money back, went to oreillys, bought their 12" set, it looks to be much much better built. costed $40 but hey, if it keeps me from having to replace it every 9 months im ok with that.
