I have a 2001 Dakota 4.7L with about 65K miles.
The check engine light came on intermittently and the code was P0551.
I changed the switch ( advance auto Parts $35 ) and the light did go out.
However, the memory still shows P0551. After erasing it,it comes back. but the light doesn't.
What's up?

i have the same code, never done anything about it. no issues as far as i can tell. let it be imo. i have the code and have cleared it with a handheld, no light though.

if your steering goes out, then yes. i have had this code for 2 years. no issues.
