Question 04 Dodge Dakota Tilt Wheel Assembly

I need help from the "experts" I have a 2004 Dodge Dakota Quad cab. After I shut off my truck, I depressed the steering wheel tilt lever, there was a grinding sound as though the gears were being stripped. The steering wheel stayed in the postion used while driving and wont go up or down, The truck is drivable and not an issue. Can the tilt wheel assembly be replace or do I need a complete steering column? Also, what would a repair cost provided the assembly (tilt wheel assembly) can be replaced.
Thanks

I dont think there is anyway to gain access to it to fix that. You can get a junk yard column for pretty cheap its relativity easy to replace too.
