Question Strobe Kit.

I live in South Carolina and was wondering the legality of a white strobe kit on my Dakota. Basically can I get a ticket for just having them on my truck? And are they legal to use in parking lots and other places like that?

EDIT: This is the threads original post. It put moe7470's reply first for some reason.

Basically the law is setup like this...for MOST states... You can have them installed on your vehicle... but they can only be activated on private property. It is unlawful to activate any type of utility light on any road maintained by a city, county, or state agency. I have a light bar on my truck as well as 3 sets of hide-away strobe lights. Blue, red, yellow, and green. Im I firefighter and have to carry a badge so if I get pulled over for my lights being on I can justify to the officer why my lights are on, I also have to verify that I am indeed resonding to a confirmed call. You can have them all day long... but go ahead and flip em on infront of DOT and see how funny they think it is... I will say this however, if you get the strobes with the strobe packs... buy them used...the packs arent designed to last more then a few years and are very expensive to replace.

around where i live, (central florida) as long as you dont use them on public road/ property, and they are not blue and red you are good. i had purple strobes in my dakota and never had a problem. a lot of people also have orange strobes in their vehicles to be used as warning or emergency lights. and usually the locals sheriffs dont worry about that.

You could put Amber (Orange, construction color) cause it isnt a emergency color, it's a coution light. You cant get in trouble for that cause for all the cops know you are a contracter. But i still dont suggest driving down the street with them on.
