Exhaust Manifold Bolt Problem

So the other half is in hole? that is my heat shield the bolt was just in there stuck to the heat shield in the hole

How am I suppose to take it out and put new bolts on it?

Drill the old hole out and then heli coil it. Just be sure not to drill to far cause you could hit a oil or water jacket.

Heli coil wont work. Expanding rate with heat is going to be too different. Your best best is to use a left handed drill bit to attempt to grab the remaining thread out. Ive had alot of sucess with this. Just a friendly tip however. PB Blaster will help alot when removed old stubborn exhaust studs.*

p.s. Im going to add this so no one jumps my @$$ saying im wrong... Im not saying that a heli coil will NEVER work... Im just saying its not the RIGHT way to fix this issue. a steel helicoil will expand different then the head... It may work, it may not... Heli coils arent designed for that extreme heat either...

my god the rust you get back east

My god the Rust you get back east blows my mind lived in California till 2006 now in Arizona were nothing rusts even CA we never see that kind of rust unless you live by the ocean then you get rust from the salt in the air.

I think crateampsrock is correct.

I actually just used heli coils on my buddys work beater. All 3 of them are still holding. We beat the piss out of it not to mention it deals with his 50 miles drive everyday. Its actually a pretty safe fix and have done it on many customers vehicles. I have used them in atv's when the head studs would strip too.

both just?

Both of you are correct I just think trying to get it out first is a good start then if that dont work drill it out fix it.

be sure to use anti-sieze compound on the threads and bottom of the head bolt, so it will come out next time. on exhaust bolt dont tighten bolt fully on first, take to about with in 10 ft lbs, then after it has been head cycled 3-5 times then tighten fully

I could have sworn I added an addition to my comment covering this exact thing...

So yea Im going to drill it then I am thinking of doing this during my Thanksgiving brake, but for now ill spray lots of PB Blaster around all the bolts here and there. Hopefully i wont brake a stud..
