Power loss
I am on the same road as you , haven't found the magic part yet and im down to just a few more parts & sensors to replace and i`ll have a new truck , still have on the list to replace - the fuel pump - crank position sensor - cam position sensor - governor pressure sensor and solenoid . everything else has been replaced or swapped out with a known good part , including the injectors , timeing chain & gears , top end rebuild with new valves , belly pan gasket , new cat converter and freeflow exhaust , and i still havent the power uphill that i think it should have , cant even spin a tire from a dead stop while turning a corner , i know i cant expect much from it ----- but come on !! I want to try a next step up in rear gears , i have the stock 3:55 gears in it now and i want to go with the stock 3:92 gears and see if that help`s , if not then im going after a V-8 swap .
Well mine is getting better and I am hoping changing the governor pressure sensor and solenoid do the trick with the shifting and help the power. I just feels like there is something still plugged. Best way to describe it. My question is was there ever the power we are looking for? I mean I know these aren't powerhouses but dang we should be able to get up the hills. My wifes car can get up them fine and she has a smaller motor. lol
Have you sourced the parts yet ? There was a thread on this subject a long while back that had a good link to parts and i " thought " i saved the link in my fav`s , but i just checked and they are not there
, maybe the trans tech guy on here can point us to a parts source , i also have just bought an 1/4 " drive - inch pound torque wrench - just for this job so i can also check the adjustments on the bands while im in there replacing the solenoids .
Yes. I have found the parts. I am fine with changing the governor pressure and solenoid. I am not sure if I am comfortable with adjusting the bands. I have read up on it but do not want to mess it up.
OK wanted to post an update to this. I ordered a MAP sensor off ebay and saved a ton of money. I put it on the truck today and not only did it restore a lot of power it also helped with some of the shifting issues. When I hit 55 mph the truck would bog as if it went into overdrive and you could actually feel the pull it had. Like I was driving into the wind or something. Not sure what the MAP sensor had to do with that but now when the truck hits 50-55 there is no more bog and I can give it gas and it is more responsive. The shifts are still a bit harsher than I want them to be but that will be the next project.
