Default misfire under load.

So lately my 01 dakota 2WD 4.7L QC has been startin to act up. Driving around town and on the highway it does fine. Its when I attempt to pass someone or hit the hyper drive that it starts to misfire at about 4k rpm and throw a flashing CEL. As soon as I let off the throttle it resume normal conditions. I threw a set of plugs at it... no help...truck has 155k miles on it. O2 sensors are about a year old. I get no other DTC's except the misfire. Any thoughts?

This is almost exactly what my truck does, however I don't get the flashing CEL.

I've replaced the plugs + wires and gas cap and still not helping. I'll be checking back here hopefully for answers!

try a 180tstat and 91 octane gas, it might be just pinging.

Identifix ( A very useful Tech aid for auto repair shops, kinda like mitchell,) brings up the TPS sensor. Gives a method of testing. Issue does fit the symptoms. Will test and replace if need monday. Oriellys has part for $34 shop cost. probably $50 list.

1. Check the signal at the TPS and compare the voltage read through the scan tool for the TPS. The voltages should read the same.

2. If voltages do not match, check the voltage on the cruise control Red/Light Green Mux wire to the clockspring at the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) pin 32 of the C-3 connector. This voltage should read 5.0 volts.

3. If the voltage reads higher than 5.0 volts, cut the wire and verify there is 5.0 volts coming out of the PCM on this wire. If it reads 5.0 volts, check the other end of the cut wire. If the reading is battery voltage, repair the wire for a short to power.

4. Check the Transmission control Module (TCM) for shorts to ground or power. Next check the wiring harness for shorts to power or ground.
