Default Lower Ball Joint torque question

2002 Dakota, 3.9L, 4x4
The Haynes manual says to torque the lower ball joint to 135#. Best I can do it 100#. I'm afraid of breaking something by putting more into it. Is 100# okay? According to one video I saw on youtube, they say to torque it between 80-90#.

Thanks for your assistance

The factory service manual also reads 135 ft-lb. The difference between 100 ft-lb and 135 ft-lb isn't going to be much in terms of how much you are actually turning that castle nut. Personally, I don't quite understand how you cannot get more than 100# onto it, 35 isn't too much more, so I would say torque it to the proper torque, especially for a piece like this.

You aren't cross threaded or binding on the steering knuckle are you?

Actually, I figured if something breaks (bolt, wrench, etc), then I'll deal with it. So, I cranked everything I had on it and got it to 135 and had to go a little more just to put the cotter pin in place. So, it's good to go...lol
