Question 99 dakota, ext. cab 4x4, pop/clunk sound from front end..?

I have a strange pop/clunk sound that comes front the front driver side area. It only happens when I turn WHILE DRIVING but it only happens once in a while....
I can really hear it and feel it in my left foot on the floor, so i assume its coming from the front end. I just pulled the front tire off and checked the upper and lower ball joints, and checked the tie rod ends every thing seems in good wear.

I'm kinda lost, not sure what to check or look at next?
any suggestions?

Intermediate steering shaft maybe? If it only happens when turning have you checked that? I just replaced mine. Small u-joints were worn out.

I have had that same problem recently as well. When mine does it sounds like it is in the front end but not always when turning, but it only does it when it is in 4x4. I have replaced the transfer case this spring and had the 4x4 drive shaft rebuilt at the same time. To me it almost sounds like teeth are slipping in the front diff, but wanted to get some ideas before I tear into the front diff since it isn't the easiest to get to. I was just going to ask the same question but someone beat me to the punch

Pop the hood. It is located on the drivers side. Just follow the steering wheel down on the firewall. Grab ahold of it and see if it moves. There are small u-joints on the shaft that wear out. They are very expensive through the dealer. I got mine offebay through a jeep dealer for $69. Let me know if u need more help. Here is the link to give you an example what it looks like. Although this one doesn't appear it would fit yours there are others out there. If infact this is your issue.

what about the left side 1/2 shaft? that sounds like the CV joint going away too.
