Default 2001 Dakota injectors not firing at start

When i crank the engine it wont start unless i depress the gas pedal. As long as I hold the pedal down the engine runs but as soon as I let pedal up it stalls (it will continue to run once it warms up).

I suspect its the PCM module but dont have the tools to verify and its an expensive part to replace.

Anyone have thoughts?

Possibly a bad IAC Idle Air Control valve, it is a very common problems for idle issues which this sounds like it is. I will move this to the 2nd Generation Dakota sub-forum.

where is that located?

I traced 2 throttle control cables from the throttle body, 1 goes to the gas pedal and the other to a canister mounted on the passenger side wheel well, right next to the PCM. I've tried to find out what this canister is called but havent had any luck.

Sounds like your battery is getting weak. These trucks do not want to idle if the battery voltage is below 12v. Have it load tested to confirm.

The IAC sensor is on the back side of the throttle body.

The canister on the passenger side wheel well is you cruise control servo.

Have battery tested before you start throwing parts at it.
