Default Transfer case shift Motor (Indexing)

Just installed new shift motor on a rebuilt transfer case, NP 233, old motor went bad, upon removal shaft didn't line up, I moved it back one click, to line up with new motor, upon completion, truck doesn't want to shift into 4 low, or neutral, on selector switch... but it does try..Is it possible that shaft could be 180 degrees out of sync?? But 4 hi works and 2wd works fine, Does the shift motor have a default position upon installation?? any feedback would be appreciated
