removing a seat in a dakota
You could make something temp on your own I have used this place for high quality foam http://www.foamorder.com/cushions.html I would use this either the EverFlex™ V44 foam or the EverFlex™ V54 high quality stuff http://www.foamorder.com/custom_cuts.php#v44
Then buy a form fit seat cover for them not sure where to find the seat covers? Maybe http://www.seatcoversunlimited.com/ Kind of pricy I see
This may work for a few years.
Good luck.

What has to be done to get durrango seats to fit?
If you find a seat on http://www.car-part.com/ call the places and ask them to send some pic's of the seats they will do it well most places will do it some are just lazy.
I have grabbed a few used parts from http://www.car-part.com/ that way

The fronts will bolt in to the factory holes but the rear holes are a little too wide for the seat bracket. So you just get a piece of metal and and drill 4 holes. 2 for the dakota holes in the floor and 2 for the durango seat.

I worry about modifying seats to work like that in an accident your car could become a death trap you never know how the seats will react in an accident with modified seats.
Think well before doing modifying seats to get them to work.

1/4 in steel with grade 8 bolts will be plenty of strength. If You think thats not strong enough then I hate to say you will prob be dead in our trucks with that sort of impact anyway with the stock seats. Its not the seat you have to worry about its where the buckle bolts to. If you can move it to the stock location where the factory seats bolt to now you have nothing to worry about.
My drivers seat is all caved in from the fat *** that owned it before me. Besides it being extremly uncomfortable it also failed state inspection as one of the metal bars is showing. So I wanted to just replace the drivers seat. But if I come across all 3 in good shape I will replace them.
I had a similar problem with my Dakota. The material covering the seats is in decent shape, considering it's age, but the springs had pulled through the the holes of the bars that they hooked to. The foam in the seats was visibly deteriorating but not too-too bad; its usable for now.
I'd have to see a pic of what you're situation is but this is what I did and it worked out great!
I picked up a handful of springs matching the existing springs from Pep Boys.
Removed the seats.
If the holes were either worn through or close to it, I drilled new holes around a half-inch away from the original holes.
From there I hooked one side of the springs to screen-like support webbing (whatever you call it) and hooked the other end to the new holes in the bar.
For a little extra cushion and for a nicer look, I picked up a pair of open-box/returned seat covers from Walmart for $20.
Still holding strong two months and many miles later.
Good luck!
