Signs of a bad Tstat?
Was driving earlier this morning and then I noticed the Check Gauges light came on, noticed that the temperature gauge was at max heat. Before I could take a second look the light was gone and the temperature was reading normal. Just now it happened again.
Just wanted to make sure but this is a sign of a bad tstat right?
Thanks

Temp sending unit is located on the intake manifold, right behind the thermostat. It screws into the manifold. I replaced my own sending unit when I installed my 180 degree thermostat. I bought it at Advance for about $20.00 but that was several years ago.
When I installed my 180 tstat I saw that the end of the temp sending unit had cracked pretty badly. It was not broken off, the element was still intact and the temp gauge was still reading OK but maybe yours has a cracked sending unit too, which could possibly be causing the temp gauge problems.
Edit: Here is a link to the Advance sending unit web page:
