Default 2wd axle compared to 4wd...

Hello everyone. I am in need of an entirely new rear axle due to my pinion bearings letting go at 35mph. The axle I need is the 12 bolt hexagon cover, 9.25" with 3.55 gears. I can't find one anywhere around me for less then $650. I did however find a 2wd rear axle for around $340 and my question is...

I know the leaf springs mount UNDER the axle on a 2wd...but is that the only difference? If so, I can just weld new spring perches on top of the axle. Are the shocks mounted differently? Anyone with a 2wd Dak with the 9.25" axle with disk brakes...if you could get me a picture I would really appreciate it. Thanks guys.
