And unfortunately for those of us who have one, a big PITA to resolve.

Can the clear coat be stripped and resprayed? What will the finished product look like? Except for the roof, most of my missing clear coat is within the last 12-14 months. The roof has been going for longer, maybe 3 years, but I could live with a mis-matched roof if the hood and fender tops could be salvaged.

mine went a couple years also, but you don't want it to start rusting, which it will...

Bringing this back to life again~~

Has anyone attempted to polish out the paint under the clear and then reshoot the clear only? I was thinking I might try to compound the places the clear has already flaked off, although the roof and upper door frames look like there's nothing there to work with. But I know that the roof has been flaking and wearing for longer than the rest of the body.

I tried to do this on my daughters car. The roof was flaking real bad. The tough part is "feathering" the edges of the good clear coat enough to where you wont see the edge between the good and bad clearcoat when you shoot it. It ended up looking worse, IMO. Plus, if the clear is gone, the paint will be faded and it will be really tought also to match it to the paint under the good clearcoat.

Clear coat peeling is not a problem that's limited to Dodge. I see it on all different vehicles from all manufacturers. In all fairness, if paint lasts 10 years out in the weather, I wouldn't really consider it defective. Just count on buying a paint job if you're going to keep your truck for a long time, especially if you park it outside.

My paint lasted 15 years and patch clear coating just doesn't work or last very long either.

I just ignore it as all I care about is solid transportation and dependability till one poor excuse for a President gets his @ss kicked out the door.

I heard that it was because Chrysler was just starting to use water based paint but I don't know. my 01 with 53K doesn't have this problem.

Yes, at one point I think around 08, 09 when they went through bankruptcy, quality of everything suffered.
