Stronger torsion bars
Does anyone know if the torsion bars from the V8 trucks are stronger than the V6 bars?
I have a 1999 V6 extended cab 4X4 and wonder if the 2000 quad cab V8 bars are stronger.
I have the V6 bars cranked all the way and it still not to the rubber stops.
The added weight of the Isuzu 4HE1 turbo diesel is the problem. ;>)

Thanks for any help.

I know the 1st Gens had V8 specific bars. I would assume 2nd Gen does too. Check the parts manual that is downloadable in the FAQ. You can also get indexed torsion bar keys, most people don't need them on 2nd Gens since the stocks don't max out.
That sounds like a fun project. Other options might be some kind of custom coil over shock or custom air bags or air shocks in the shock locations.

I have a 2000 V8 Quad cab as well so maybe today I will swap the bars from it to see the difference.
The V6 bars are too soft so even with indexed keys it would still sag in the front over bumps.
I would imagine they are different diameters and will measure that before pulling them.
Frank (short for Frankenstein) has been off the road for the last two weeks getting air ride rear suspension using monster 5 ton truck bags.
I'll look at air options for the front to.
