The noise is now happening while under power, not while coasting. There's also a vibration occurring between 40-80kph. It's getting worse, and since two shops couldn't even find a problem, I'm taking to the dealership tomorrow for a diagnosis.

I'll let you know what they find.

are you a 4x4 or awd? from a dead stop going backward, how does it sound? my cv on the front shaft off the tcase took a crap on mine, sounded similier to yours but worse when going in reverse. if you have an awd, replace the cv with a cv, not the remaned shafts!!

Just got back from the Dealership. It was the propeller shaft, right at the transfer case. Needs to be replaced completely, price for the part $728.00 with 1.5 hours to install.

All in it's just over a thousand dollars.

Take it to a drive shaft shop get it way cheaper and may not even need it.

Or a rear-end shop.

What exactly is the problem the shaft or a bearing?

Default I know the pain of shops

I don’t know what it is but shops can’t find there behind from there face if you know what I mean. I say WHY?

MY A/C craped out took it to 5 yes 5 shops and some were A/C specialists shops all said we can’t find anything wrong well the fact my A/C doesn’t work should mean something?

Finally a friend of a friend said go to this guy who works in his own shop by himself and you know what a dead compressor WTF the other shops couldn’t tell that??

Anyway it was fixed and you just scratch your head at how many shops couldn’t find this out??

you are better off replacing it with an after market one. are you awd or 4x4? if awd you need the cv not a u joint. 300 or less for a remaned from almost every auto parts store. takes 15 min to remove and install.

I'm curious what you ended up replacing, the complete shaft, or just the u and cv joints, did it fix your issue? My Durango is making the same sort of noise.
