Exclamation One code turned into two!

My name is Andrew and I have an '03 Dodge Dakota SXT 3.9 V6
I have had it for 6 years now and have always kept up on maintenance- tires, brakes, belts, plugs, and anything else that may have popped up. I just recently had a problem with my gas mileage. I got the P code saying it was the O2 Censor and I got that confirmed. I bought a new one, knew where to put it and replaced it with no problem.

Now, 4 days later, the same code is showing up, plus a code P0306 - cyl 6 misfire. Am I missing something? Is this new code related at all to the O2 censor replacement I did?

I'm certainly not an expert, by any means, so I could really use some help!

Thank you

I will move this to the 2nd Gen Dak Section.

Good luck...

As for your question, I do not believe they are related.

Default Thank You!

Thank you for your response. If they really aren't related, I guess it's just a coincedence. Thanks again!

Why was my response removed? a misfire code can cause an o2 code all day long...

I'm not sure why. I actually didn't even see your 1st response. Ok, so if the C6 misfire prompted the O2 censor code, then the censor didn't need to be replaced probably. Is the misfire an easy fix? Thanks!

There are several reasons why you have a misfire. It could something as small as a bad coil, spark plug, spark plug wire, or serious such as low cylinder compression (bad valve spring[s], bent valves, etc). Just in case you aren't sure cylinders 1,3,5 are on the driver's side and 2,4,6 are on the passenger side.

make this easier for you... First, start out by swapping coils from 6 to 2, see if the codes changes from a p0306 to a p0302... then try it with plug.. etc etc.... oops wait, the 3.9 v6 has wires? if thats the case just swap wires and plugs..

it could be o2 sensors the front ones cause mysfire (if that what i think it means) in mine that cause half the engine turn off first make no fuel come to the cylinders then my mechanic swapped them from side and send too much fuel equal no explosion

Thanks guys. I will use your suggestions and see what I can do. I spent $55 to fill the tank and only got 170 miles! Is this bc of these codes?

The o2 sensors can screw your mpg equal to other sensors
