Default 2000 Dakota Transmission Problems and idling problems

Hi all. I'm looking for suggestions before I proceed. Here is my problem.
My 4.7 litre.
If it is cold out, when I first move the truck the rpms will run higher and the truck will proceed to slowly move, eventually getting up to speed. On extremely cold days at times when it is in gear (forward or reverse) it won't move at all. I might have to warm the vehicle for 15-30 mins (idling) If I proceed to put it in drive it won't move. If I shut it off for 5 minutes (after running it for 15 mins or so) and restart it, it will then move slowly, eventually getting up to speed. However the rpms still rev higher as it moves slowly and gets up to speed.

On warm summer days I do not encounter this problem. (Except on some occasions when I first start truck in the morning it might move a little slower then normal until it gets up to speed) This remains consistent after hitting every red light.

Another problem I have is the engine loves to rev sporadically. (More so then not) Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it doesn't. When I slow down for a red light the idle drops too low, I might try to give it a little gas but it will over rev itself automatically.

I took it to a reputable (I think) mechanic. Told it was the idler control module. Removed and replaced. It was fine for one day. (This was during the summer so the majority of the time the Transmission was working fine.) The following day the idle problem slowly came back.

Took it to a Dodge dealership for the problems discussed above. I was told they reset the large number of error codes on the idler control module. This was the best the truck has ever idled and ran like new. Day 2, noticed idle created problem and stalled out when braking once. Day 3, happened 3 times. Progressively returned to its original problematic state by day 5-7.
The transmission problem was not looked at because supposedly the transmission expert was not there that day.

Please post any thoughts, questions or suggestion beginning with the most logical or what I should be looking for. Needless cash has been spent. Would like to understand what might be happening if it is something I might be able to fix myself. If not help me pinpoint what to direct the mechanic to. I don't like paying for something I do not have an understand of.
