Default RB1 Installation

Hey guys.

I've currently got my truck in pieces and I'm thinking of doing some upgrading, while I have it apart. One of the things I wanted when I bought the truck (but would have had to special order if I wanted it in the truck I bought) was the factory, RB1 GPS unit. The headliner was sagging, so I just had that re-upholstered.

I guess I have two questions: 1) Has anyone done an RB1 installation on a 2003 (or later 2nd gen) Dakota? I've read that they are 100% compatible with my current harness but I just wanted to check.

2) Is the GPS antenna mounted in the dash, or on the roof? I don't want to re-install the headliner until I know for sure.

If you have any other suggestions, I'm all ears. Thanks guys!

No one has done it on here that I know of(in 3 years ive been on here) second question is the antenna is going to need to be mounted on the roof for best operation. You dont want anything interfering with the gps signal

Well, that's a bad omen.

I think I worded my previous question wrong. I assume that what you're saying is that the OEM antenna is mounted on the roof?

My reason for asking is because some OEM receiver antennas are located on the dashboard now. I just didn't know what the case was for 2nd Gen daks..

It would prob be fine on the dash I was just thinking as far as interference wise. My hid's mess up my radio signal so at night it sucks. Our jeep,my dads challenger,my paps gmc have all the gps antennas mounted on the roof. Either way im sure you will be fine I just look at it if you are doing it might as well do it right and be safe

I'm actually starting to re-think this idea.

Maybe there are better in-dash units out there for less money because the RB1s I see on ebay are all going for somewhere between $400-$600. Plus, I could probably get something with Bluetooth to take calls with, play music from my iPhone, etc.

I'll have to consider this a little more carefully...

Yes there are tons of others out there. We have the in our jeep and its pretty basic. Now a days you get sat radio, dvd, nav, bluetooth and all that built in. I say look around and see what you can find
