Is it wise to lengthen CV axles?
My '02 4x4 Dak has 5"-6" total lift (cranked torsion bars in front, blocks in back, and a 3" body lift) Apparently it's a little too much lift for the CV axles though, because the front passenger side one popped completely out the other day. I found someone that can lengthen the CV so it would reach, is this a smart decision? Also, the shop said i would only have to length the one side, but i always thought they would both have to be lengthened... any insight on that too?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Well it isnt just the length that matters but also the angle at which the shaft can run. Are they just going to weld in a piece of steel on the main shaft area? I know Z71 suspension lifts come with CV spacers that mount on the axle tube side but they still dont last under much abuse.
Yeah, if they were to lengthen it, I think they would just add length to the middle the shaft part. It doesn't seem like that would be a problem... but can you give me some more information about the CV spacers? Does the Z71 suspension lift parts fit our trucks? (Or at least the CV spacers?)
And Brian, my truck is a little rough, yes. But i think that's too be expected if you crank your torsion bars out all the way. And I have no problem sacrificing a little ride smoothness for more height... If i drove a Lexus, it would be different lol
