Default trouble w/shifting automatically

I just bought a 1998 dakota 3.9 w/auto trans. before purchase OBDII scanner showed p0743 and p0753 codes. It would not shift automatically from 1rst-2nd nd would not go into overdrive automatically. I now have learned that if I push the tripometer and turn the ignition on it will do a check of some sort and then the trans. seems to operate as it should with the exception that it shifts at higher rpms than what would seem normal. also If I am driving at 55-60 mph and it will not go into overdrive, I can put it in neutral and trn off the ignition and then start the truck again and i usually goes into overdrive. I havent got a lot of money to buy parts that are uneccessary. please help. chuckthepainter@hotmail.com

I will move this to the 2nd Generation Dakota Sub-Forum. Also I changed the text size from the unreadable Holly S**** LARGE size you had to a normal sized text so it can be read.
