Default Imobilizer Question.

I've been wondering this for a while, but my 04 dakota doesn't have the oem alarm that some dakota's come stock with. It also doesn't have power locks, but what I was wondering was would it be possible to grab an imobilizer from a wrecked or parted out dakota and install it onto mine? I'm aware the unlock and lock function would not work, just the alarm.

thanks for your replies.

The OE alarm is part of the Central Timer Module. Base model trucks don't have the CTM with the OE alarm or door lock inputs. The alarm is turned off and on by a signal from the door lock mechanism in the door itself when you lock and unlock the doors with the factory keyless entry remote control. To add the OE alarm you would have to upgrade the door lock/latch assemblies and the CTM, probably need to add OE door lock switches too. You would be better off just adding a basic alarm like a Viper or other good quality alarm, and if you want the OE style function where it honks the horn instead of tripping a siren, you could just wire the siren output to honk the horn. You could also add your own aftermarket electric door lock actuators to the system so you would have keyless entry too. Actuators are pretty easy to install in 2nd Gen Dakota's.
