how to wire chicken lights the correct way?
thank you for all the help guys, i should finish getting my strips painted tomororw and hopefully get it up running in a day or so. i already got the switch mounted. and some of the wiring under the hood done.
heres a update, got most of the wiring done and lights are already mounted and hung. problem is where can i find a wire to splice into on the day time running lamps or that general area of the switch/ ****. oh where do i start many many wires... i was assuming the black was the hot one, but then i see these tracers and all kinds of wires and started to confuse myself as i was looking through my haynes manual trying to match wires up and the diagrams just confused me. any help on a exact color to splice into would be greatly apprciated! just a few steps closer to having these bad boys working!
pull out your driver front light assembly. test the wires to your parking lights. find the wire that shows (+) when the prk lights are on, dont use the blinker or ground wires. dont go off of the switch! go off of the harness near the lights.
that would explain why i blew a fuse then! ill give it a go over my lunch break
UPDATE
doesnt work as of now.
didnt have volt meter said gave it a guess and tapped into the black wire on the running lights the right bulb that doesnt blink with turn signals.
30 to chicken lights
85 to ground
86 to switch
87 to battery
is it possible i have the leads on the toggle switch in my cab wrong? power, load, and ground
middle lead on switch is ground and there was a copper color lead and a silver one, which would be load and power? the switch did not have them labeled.
load - lead going to relay?
power - lead to running lights?
update 2
i elminated the relay all together and ran lead with fuse to switch and other lead coming from switch to chicken lights and blew a 20amp fuse, when each light takes .1 amp which would bring me to 1 amp with all 10 lights. what would cause it to over load?

i would have to test ur switch, but most are: power in= middle terminal. the odd colored terminal should be ground. the light on the switch should light up with those two connected. the last terminal goes to your new lights.
mcnasty i ended up having the ground and hot lead switched on my toggle switch which caused it to blow fuse
and dirbiker i think they are awesome in person especially when its pitch black. i still have two red ones to mount onto the back of my tool box still
