I have a 99 dakota 5.2 5 speed 4x4 and the speedo dont work and the engine is throwing a p0500 code. I replaced the sensor in the rear end and that did not fix anything what else could cause that code? I checked the wires with the key on with a test light and got nothing. I checked the wires a couple feet away from the rear end didnt go much further than that. Is there a fuse or something else that causes this problem?

There is a fuse under the hood, i had the same problem and once i got a new fuse it worked fine. open up your fuse box and look for " Amp park & Int Lamp. i changed it and my speedo worked again. i have the 97 with 5.2, hope this helps

 

A couple years back I had to replace the sensor on the rear diff to recover my speedometer. Fuse would def be better but the sensor is also a possibility. Just a remove and replace, though some rust breaker might be needed depending on your location if it is the sensor.
