Bad Transmission or Wheel Bearing?
Can't thank you guys enough for this forum. I recently replaced my plenum pan and gasket with an aluminum pan and new gasket. Also was having a low idle and stalling out afterwards. I replaced the O2 sensors because they had a CEL but that didn't fix the idle problems so I replaced the IAC Valve and viola... Idles at 800 and I couldn't make it stall out even by trying.
Well throughout this whole process I noticed a strange roaring sound I haven't noticed before. It roars when the truck is moving and it gets louder with speed. RPM doesn't effect the loudness only the speed of the vehicle. It also gets kinda shakey sometimes... With no change at RPM and changing at certain speeds I hope the transmission is ruled out. Weird that a wheel bearing would decide to go out on me right after I fixed the plenum problem though. I'm by no means a mechanic but would love a hint. Thanks guys!

Jack the truck up and wiggle the wheel back and forth, if there is a lot of play or enough to make it give a banging or tapping noise then its your wheel. Are they old? I just did mine about a month ago, pretty simple job you just may need a BFH getting the hub off.
I've never touched them, The Tires are new and the brakes are fairly new. I'm hoping its a front one. What tools will I need if it is a front one? Again I'm not sure it's a wheel bearing thats making the roaring sound. I just hope it's not the transmission. I don't know too much about cars but this process has been a learning experience. I dove right in.
Well to check it takes 2 seconds just jack it up and shake the tire.
No special tools, you don't need air tools but they are definately a bonus - even those electric ones you can buy (I have one for simple jobs) help out a lot. Only thing you'll probably have to buy is a 32mm socket for the axle nut, wouldn't come in any socket sets since its so big. Now, double check that a 32mm would fit, thats what I found online and my dak was 32mm but i've seen people with a 31mm nut too.

Agree. Get the wheel off the ground and grab on to it. If get a lot of movement it is hub bearing. And you should be able hear it if it is bad.

I wish I would have saw this 2 days ago. Spent 230.00 for both .I am still getting a grinding sound only when I turn to the left. ANY IDEAS. I also removed both axles and still getting the noise. Thanks

I would've suggested the steering column but it would grind even if you turned right too - these rack and pinion systems are garbage imo, and to be completely honest you can get decent ones for much cheaper than $230.
