Default transmission pan material?

Looking to put a trans temp gauge in my truck, need to know what material the pan is to get the right material bung. Gonna get the pan from here seeing as I cant see $210 for an aluminum deep pan.

I'm assuming it's stamped steel and can have a steel bung welded to it?

Haven't decided where to put the sender at, orientation wise. Need to check out clearances.

Main problem is that the digital gauge only has an 8 foot lead, and if I put the gauge where the ash tray is, I have no idea how to get the wires down to the transmission without cutting and splicing them with extensions.

when weld ing a trans pan , be sure to avoid places under levers that move to in gauge bands, and the new ones have wires that should be avoided. been down that road.

I'm probably gonna do it down low in a corner. The filter should protect most of what's in the trans space-wise, right?

The drilling and welding will be done off the vehicle. Just a matter of checking fit and making sure I don't hit anything.Plus the bung will hold the sensor out of the pan a bit, so only the 1/2" probe should stick in.

after you clean the trans. add this to your chrysler trans. an external fluid filter
1. go to auto-zone. get 2210, its called a power steering filter, but it is for transs to. it is for 3/8 tubing. by (magna-fine) be sure to use high pressure hose. Reff:http://www.magnafilter.com.au/magna-fine.html
2. for other sizes wix 58964 5/16 tube size reff:http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlook...sionfilter.asp

NEW SUBJECT: .distributor moisture fix. Some chrysler distributor cap that has an air vent, needs to have the vent plugged. Best to use JB-weld. But there might be some brands that run air through as part of the system, dont seal them

are they stamped steel or ???

Local racer will be TIGing the bung on. Going to have the pan switched when I get the trans fluid changed here in not too long. Getting a real bad RPM spike on the 2-3 shift at WOT, breaks loose to shift at 3000, jumps to 3700 or so, then down to 2500 when things hook back up.

it's supposed to be a factory replacement for a jeep cherokee's 42RE. I havent taken a magnet to the stocker to see what kind of material it is. I figured for cost, it would be stamped steel.
