A check engine light shouldn't come on because of removing a muffler. I had 2 rams with 5.9l motors and took the muffler out with no problems.

Maybe we're a little confused on which is which? The small guy is the catalytic converter, and the big guy is the muffler. There should be no engine light from removing the muffler, however if you take out the cat, then you will most likely throw a code.
