Default On Board Air

Ok, i have been reading posts everywhere of Jeep owners building On Board Air systems. I have yet to see anyone do it with a Dodge. So guess what, I'm doing it, and will be posting pics and how I did it, as it progresses.

First things first, the vehicle is a 2000 Dodge Dakota with a 3.9L v6. in lieu of repairing the ac system (leaking). I found it more sensible to convert it to OBA. The pump is the stock sanden sd7h15 (u 4774).

i started with draining the AC system (actually there was noting in the system.. it leaked), then i removed the stock manifold block from the pump. once that was completed, i cut the alum lines to what i needed from them, basically the manifold and approx. 5-8 inches of line. tomorrow i will place the manifold back on, and confirm the suction and output side.

i will post pics of the progress tomorrow.

Dont forget to add a inline oiler or oil it before each use. I had one on my cherokee. Great for on the trail.

i am unsure of one thing... whether i can get away with using compression fittings on the alum. pipe, or should i just cut it flush and tap it using 1/4" NPT..

any input would be appreciated

You prob can. My pump actually had screw in fittings so it just needed some threaded pipe and some brass fittings.

i wish mine was that easy.. haha.. im thinking tap.. although crapsman air compressors use compression on alum. pipe. i guess at this point its a matter of time and money, $9 for the tap, or like 14 for the comp fittings.. cant find em under 6 anywhere local.. it also looks like that it doesnt matter wich way i put the manifold back on the comp, so if i did tap it i can just flip the manifold

A long time. As long as they are oiled and not run all the time you will see some good life out of them. Just put yours on a switch or unhook the connector when you are done.
