HELP! Starter terminal Melted!!
Greetings! I am a new member and I hope you all can help me. I just bought a 2004 Dakota last March, that has been good to me and was very well cared for. It started to intermittantly not start (nothing from the starter when I turned the key). I figured the clutch safety switch was a little sensitive.
I put a new starter in it, but discovered the "s" terminal is a plastic clip that snaps right into the starter, had melted. I took the truck to a shop for the repair because the starter was corroded in place. They couldn't find a way to replace the plastic clip on the harness side, so they used RTV to hold it on the new starter. Worked ok for just over a week, then started to cause problems again.
Meanwhile, I noticed the new Duralast starter was starting slower and slower.
Today it stopped starting the truck all together, and makes a noise as if the starter is running, but the engine is not turning over, and the gear is not engaging with the flywheel.
Is there a heat shield that is possibly missing, causing this plastic clip to melt? How can I get a replacement clip on the wiring harness side? I can't think of another way to wire this S terminal because the starter itself has this special clip, and no traditional stud with a nut for an eyelett.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am now relying on my 23 year old Turbo Caravan lol.
Thanks!

Ugh sorry about that. Can't delete worth this app. Anyway have you tried the dealer to see if they sell that wire? Junk yard is another option if the dealer doesn't stock it.

according to the shop I took my truck to, the dealer does not provide just this plastic plug. My guess is they would sell me a whole new wiring harness
. Do any of you know what model and years this clip is the same on? I know the 3.7 V6 was new for the 2004 year, but maybe the same plug was used for several years hopefully. I'm not totally sure what mine is supposed to look like since its so melted!
