I'll be doing this soon and since I don't want to post links from another forum on here search 2000 Dakota heater core on google and the first link should help you out. I can't see the pics on the computer I am on but they talk about another bolt behind the trans or something, not sure but if you can find that post the guy has lots of pics up and lots of good info.

im doing a rebuild on my 2000 dakota. i havent had the URGE to pull my heater core.. but wen the heat comes on i smell coolant, so i am in the same metaphorical boat.. it needs to come out. after i finish dismateling the motor today, i will tackle the heater core outta curosity and maybe have the info your looking for.

i dont belive theres a bold behind the trans. my entire cab is off the frame. didnt see any other than grounding posts. i will take a second look and let ya know
