Default manual trans. oil

Has anyone changed their oil in the manual transmission? I though since i'm changing my fluids I'd hit that right away too but dodge says it's not necessary but up to the owner. Anyone know how many quarts from empty? Also, the dealer has the oil to go in it and it's just called "manual transmission oil" and not ATF-4 obviously. it has a part number but no viscosity label and it was $10 a quart! Advance auto looked it up and had a listing up to 1999 dakota's and it said to use 75\90 gl-3. thats almost the same as the fluid for the rear differential with the difference that the rear is gl-5. What is the difference between gl-3 and gl-5 if the viscosity is the same? Can someone confirm the 75\90, gl-3 or gl-5 if it matters, in the manual tranny? I'm holding off on this oil change till I know for sure. My dakota is 2002.
