My Dakota has developed an odd brake issue. Every now and again the engine will rev up when I hit the brakes. My mechanic didn't have any ideas. Anyone else ever experience this? Its very disconcerting. And, No, I am not bridging both pedals with my right foot.

Sounds like a vacuum leak inside the brake booster or a bad check valve on the outside of the booster. The check valve would be the cheapest to check and replace.
