Unhappy Another 4wd question/problem!!!

Hello folks, new to the forum and this may have be answered already .. I have a 2000 Dakota . 4.7 5spd with a manual 4wd lever .. when i slide the lever into 4h at a stop the t case engages .. after driveing say 50-100 feet i start geting a banging and grinding up front like the 4wd is disengageing and trying to rengageing .. same thing happens when i try to shift on the fly at a slow speed (5-10mph) .. truck runs great in 2wd .. t case replace 3 years due to preveious owner beating the truck .. no problem till this year .. any ideas .. thanks for the help.

n9oum...you might check the linkage on the transfer case to insure it is adjusted properly and the sliding adjusting bolt is tight. I had a similar problem on my '97 and found the bolt that locks the slider had fallen out, not allowing the T-case to fully engage.
