2004 Dakota Tweeter question
Hey guys,
I just bought an 04 Quad Cab with the factory Infinity system. The Factory door speakers are blown and so I just bought a set of replacments.
I got a set of tweeters (came with the new Speakers) as well and they came with Cross overs.
I'm not sure where the cross over is in the factory system...is it built into the Factory Tweeters? (meaning when i replace them i need to install the new Tweeters). Or.....are the crossovers built into the factory Amp and i can just Plug in the new Tweets.
Let me know if you need any futher info.
Any help will be huge.
Thanks guys.
Bryan

Not sure if you're interested or not, since it sounds like you already bought replacements, but usually the speakers aren't blown with the stock system, it's usually just the foam surrounds have deteriorated and ripped apart, making the speaker sound like it's blown.
I just redid all 4 of my factory infinity door speakers with 2x the following kit (http://www.simplyspeakers.com/infini...t-fsk-6.5.html). Had never done it before, but it's pretty easy. Original speakers sound great again and it was much cheaper than replacements. Maybe you can take them back and save some coin?
If you don't want to fix them, you might consider not tossing them out and fixing them to sell (or sending them to me
), as the originals are low impedance and properly matched, OEM fitting replacements aren't so easy to find.

The Infinity tweeters have a small capacitor that is glued to the back of the tweeter. That is the only crossover they used for the tweeters, I have no idea what value the cap is or what the crossover frequency might be. Probably around 14 to maybe 16 kHz. You will need to install the crossovers for the new tweeters inline on the speaker wire that goes to the tweeter if you are still using the factory radio and/or amp. The new tweeters will probably sound better and be louder than the Infinity tweeters.
