im with you on that one. i got a 2000 Club Cab with the 3.9L. how many miles are on your rig? i mean theres a cold air intakes, msd (or equalivant) ignition systems..

but budget mpg gains... hmm i went with a kn air filter in the stock air box, and bosch platnium +4's spark plugs. just that combination i noticed a difference, id estimate roughly 2-3 mpg. the motor was a lot more responsive.

i still have to replace the cap and rotor, and ignition coil. im also doing a bunch of other small mods on the motor that are outlined on my thread, and on my personal website.

feel free to PM me if you have any questions.. i am doing a frame off restoration and customization so im going through it all, and on a budget

I was thinking of putting a short-ram instead of a cold air intake sense cold air intake actually makes you use more fuel and my rig has like 135000 or so on it which is around normal for the year and i put a specture filter the k&n's cheaper brother lol but i havn't done a tune up yet it needs it but i am getting around 15.5 to 16mpg its mostly city type driving where i am at just wanting to get better lol

O.O

You win the fuel mileage race. Either you put a 5 speed behind that 3.9, you're shutting off and coasting, you never open the throttle blades, or you're going off the overhead computer (subtract 2 if so)....

I think the best city I've seen on here out of a 3.9 is 14-15. I get closer to 11 city/19 hwy but I'm modded.

Same here... I'm usually right around 12 city, can get her up to 14 on the highway going 80. Last fill up when I did all city driving and short distances only (I know, not good) I calculated 8.5 mpg. Dang 31's lol. And that heavy foot doesn't help

I'm not doubting your math, just saying I don't get great mileage because of what I've done to my truck lol

He'll get the bug and join us eventually

I think he said he's done the math because I said the overhead computer reads 2mpg high on average due to the tank sending unit mismatch error.

well heres the thing, my truck has no steel bed on it. it has only a 120 lb bed on it. and then the math was done, i did it based off this equasion.

fuel / distance traveled = mpg

its a rough number, but its viable the average i got was somehere around 17.3 mpg

belive me tho, that number will be goin down.. based on im puttin 31's on it, a 4 inch body and 2 in suspension lift.

The stock bed is light, I know 2 people can move it easily when servicing the gas tank. Yours has a flatbed or ?

That's the same eqn we all use, once you put the 31's on it'll tank hard if you have the 3.55's in back. I have 29.5's (265/65-16) and I'm with 4.10's already, albeit for racing and not fuel economy :P plus SCT, rockers, ect. And I'm not even close to done yet.
