Default 4x4

okay i have a 2001 dodge dakota My problem is my truck will not go into 4hi or 4lo just little light flashes on dial for good 45 sec and goes back to 2wd any help would be gratefully accepted........

Check the cables beneath it mine do that it get crazy sometimes and then I decided to take a look also look for the fuses

what fuses shall i check? and yes tomorrow i plan to check my connections on transfer case....And Thanks For idea

UPDATE:: I ve done hours of reserch on this problem and im posting in hopes of helping the next person.Since not many others do on here.My transfer case motor plug had been severed by front drive shaft rubbing threw it.. Thanks to the fellow above for posting but this is very common ive read....
