Unhappy Linkage to transfer case

Today of all days needed to use my 4wd and didn't work. Had about 9 inches of snow in the last few days. For the most part never need to use 4wd. But I did today and the shifter was just hanging there so had to crawl under and do it by hand. Looks like the bushing is worn again.

So my ? is has anyone done anything different to hold this in place? I replace this bushing on 3/2011

Mine did something similar last week. We also have about a foot of snow on the ground. On mine, the E-clip came off the linkage rod and the bushing fell off. Fortunately I was able to find the bushing but not the clip. I didn't have another clip so I shortened the bushing a little put it back on with a flat washer, then drilled a small hole through the rod and put a cotter pin through it. No more lost clips, bushings, or flopping linkage rods.

Ol' Fart

That is what I was looking for. But was it hard to drill? Being it is round and small. Have to get mine in the garage. Got a chance to take another look today. And looks as though the whole thing has came undone. The bracket from the transfer case to rod has came out. Looks as though the nut back out. So need to get it somewhere dry and little warmer and fix it.

I used a drill press after removing the linkage off the transfer case. Mine drilled easily, hardest part is getting the bit to start. Only took about 20 minutes. I did have the advantage of putting the truck in the garage.

Give it a try. Worst could happen I would have rod off I could take it and have a small drill in it.But hopefully can do it myself. Kinda of a waste money to have a shop drill a hole.
