Default 2000 4.7 v8 external auto transmission filter?

Went to the dealer to get parts and they gave me two transmission filters, one internal and one external, based on my VIN. However, I can't seem to find the external filter? The schematic they showed me had it underneath the vehicle, but I have also heard that they are usually located by the transmission cooler. Does anyone know of an external filter on a 2000 4x4 sport, and if so where? Or is the dealer jerking me around?

I have put an aftermarket tranny cooler on mine, works better than the auxilary by the way, anyways I have been up and down my tranny lines, and I have not seen this. Maybe the newer ones who knows, my 2000 doesn't though..

If its the (5)45RFE tranny, then the small twist-in filter is accessed by dropping the pan as is the pick-up filter. It is a transmission cooler return filter, but they put it inside near the valve body. So you should be able to change both by dropping the pan.

UCFJepper is correct the 45RFE trans has 2 filter located inside the pan. The normal flat type and a spin type. My understand is the spin on type filters the fluid prior to exiting the trans on the way to the cooler. Both can be accessed and replaced by dropping the pan. I have a 2002 QC 4.7L and this is how mine is setup ...
