Will an automatic from a 98 3.9 V6 fit in a 97 5.2 V8?

Yes it will fit but the question is, Is it strong enough? 42re wont cut it. You need at least a 44re. Even then they dont like the abuse.

I'm having trans problems and a good friend has the 98 truck he is parting out and I probably get the trans pretty cheap. I did figure out that the V6 trans is probably a 42RE and my V8 trans is a 44 or 46RE so as it would fit, as said by dodgeramguy85 it probably wouldn't be stout enough.
