Heating/Venting issue (Draft in cab)
I have a 2000 Dakota 4x4 and I have a draft that come in on the feet. It is now cold out and I cannot seem to figure out how to stop this draft. Something has to be out of place but I cannot figure it out. Even with the heat (fan) off, I still get this draft. Someone has hopefully dealt with this before and hopefully has a suggestion. Please help!
Thanks!
Thanks!
A very common problem it’s a foam seal that has fallen off or rotted off, your dash is the newer dash as my Dak is a 98 model but I think it’s about the same as to how to get to the area.
Pull out your glove box compleatly and with a bright flashlight look for the foam seal or were it should be pic 1 below should help. How to seal it is with some foam rope pic 2 and duct tape or any foam you can find that will fill in the air gap

The foam rope worked for me it was hard getting my hands back there but I fished the foam rope back there and wedged it in the air gap I didn’t get it all sealed up but about 70% sealed up.
Another way is through the cowl I think yours is the same in a 2000 Dak I removed the cowl to replace my resistor pack and at the same time I decided to seal that air leak 100% I did this by cutting strips of duct tape and reaching in/down the inlet to were the connection was you can feel it with your hand and taped it up as good as I could with about 15 to 20 small strips of tape that sealed it up about 100% no more air leak with me it’s the 115 outside heat in Arizona getting in the cab.
The cowl is the outside vent were your windshield wipers are connected between the windshield and the engine hood

Thanks, the air is moslty coming from the center, so your picture makes sense. I will look at the foam in both places, but i am guessing it is that center area that is messed up. I will post what I find.
Thanks again!!!
Thanks again!!!
If you are getting freezing cold air getting in the top seal is the problem the other one just connects the box to the dash if the top is bad and the bottom one is bad it just filters down to that bottom seal.
Or if the bottom seal is bad it has nothing to do with cold outside air getting in
You could just have a hole or gap in the firwall look under the dash for it but it would be a very small leak look at the steering shaft tube were it goes through the firewall there is a rubber seal that keeps outside air out that could be it
This could be other things also
