The PO installed new power mirrors. While they bolted up and fit properly, they were from a different year Dakota that used a different plug. Take a look: The black plug I am holding is the harness in the door, the white plug above it is from the mirror. The door plug has 3 wires and the mirror plug has 5 wires. Can i cut the plugs off and splice? Which wires go to where? HELP!!

 

The door plug has a pink, blue, and yellow wire. While the mirror plug has 2 black wires, a white, yellow, and light blue wire. Don't you just LOVE hack work!

 

The extra two wires are probably for a heater. No idea what color those are, though.

 

Good point Tom, they are heated mirrors! So IF I can figure out what wires go where I could get them to work. I'm sure the heat part has a positive and ground wire, so thats why there are 2 black wires. I SHOULD be able to splice the 2 grounds together and then splice the heater positive with the power positive?? In theory it should work, right?

 

I think you'd be better off wiring a separate switch for the heat. If you download one of the FSMs from the links in the FAQ, they probably have a wiring diagram that would tell you which wires are which.

 

yes, you have heater mirrors on a non-heater truck. IMO, I never use my heated mirrors. You living in the land of ice may want them.

Mirror switch: Orange/Yellow
Driver L/R: Dark Blue/White
Driver U/D: Yellow

Pass L/R: Dark Blue
Pass U/D: Yellow/Black

Heater: Yellow/Dark Blue and Yellow/Black.
